NATO and UK intelligence emails 'hacked' 09.01.12
It is reported that email addresses and passwords belonging to British, US and NATO officials were posted online after hackers targeted a US intelligence analysis firm over Christmas. Online "hacktivist" group Anonymous claimed via Twitter on Christmas Day that it had stolen a trove of emails and credit card information from Stratfor's member subscribers. Details of senior British intelligence officials and US defence staff were hacked, according to analysis carried out for the Guardian newspaper by John Bumgarner, an expert in cyber-security at the US Cyber Consequences Unit, a research body in Washington. In the US case, details of 173 individuals serving in Afghanistan were publicised, along with the personal details of former vice-president Dan Quayle and former secretary of state Henry Kissinger. Some 221 British military officials and 242 NATO staff were also victims along with advisers to Britain's Joint Intelligence Organisation, a body which reports sensitive information to Prime Minister David Cameron, Bumgarner found. Around 19000 email addresses belonging to US military personnel were also leaked. Stratfor, which is based in Texas, specialises in foreign affairs and security issues. The hacked spreadsheets contained email addresses and encrypted passwords of around 850000 individuals who had subscribed to the consultancy's website. Over 75000 subscribers also had their credit card numbers and addresses revealed, the Guardian reported. Experts claim that the ...

WikiLeaks: Emails Leak Exposes Inner Workings of Private Intel Firm Stratfor, a "Shadow CIA"
WikiLeaks: Emails Leak Exposes Inner Workings of Private Intel Firm Stratfor, a "Shadow CIA"
democracynow.org - The whistleblowing website WikiLeaks has begun publishing what it says are 5.5 million emails obtained from the servers of Stratfor, a private US-based intelligence-gathering firm known to some as a "shadow CIA" for corporations and government agencies. The emails were reportedly obtained by the hackers group, Anonymous. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said the files implicate some of the world's largest firms in corporate espionage. Firms with ties to Stratfor include Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs, Dow Chemical, and sectors of the US government — including the Department of Homeland Security, the Marines Corps and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Coke asked Stratfor to keep tabs on the protest plans of the group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "We've only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the stories. It will come out in the next coming days and weeks," said Kristinn Hrafnsson, a WikiLeaks spokesperson who has been a key member of the project to release the Stratfor emails. "What we were doing yesterday was introducing the project: The nature of Stratfor and how they operate, and their ties." Paltalk News - Gary interviews AJ Rossmiller
Paltalk News - Gary interviews AJ Rossmiller
Former Defense Intelligence Agency civilian officer AJ Rossmiller says somewhere along the line, intel that was developed on the ground in Iraq got changed to suit the administration's goal of invading that country. And, he says, the system remains broken. Rossmiller's comments came during an appearance on News Talk Online on Paltalk. His observations are disheartening. He suggests that someone up the chain of command purposely altered the information gathered by intelligence operatives in order to suit the political aspirations of the White House. What's worse, Rossmiller says that today, when intelligence gathering is so critical in the war on terrorism, the problem not only persists, but seasoned members of the intel community are becoming disheartened and quitting at alarming rates. This is obviously not what we need at this critical juncture. We don't need fear mongering exaggerated claims of terrorist threats. Even more importantly, we don't need miscues and missed opportunities to interdict actual plots. If what Rossmiller says is true, the men and woman who aspire to the presidency of the United States need go on the record with a plan to de-politicize the process immediately upon taking office.

Operation Dark Heart
Able Danger and the 9/11 Commission Able Danger identified the 9/11 hijackers was picked up by the national media in August 2005. In addition to that Able Danger identified the 9/11 hijackers and was prevented from passing that information onto the FBI, the intelligence concerning Able Danger was provided to the 9/11 Commission and ignored. Two 9/11 Commission members, Timothy J. Roemer and John F. Lehman, both claimed not to have received any information on Able Danger. Lee H. Hamilton, former Vice Chair of the 9/11 Commission, and Al Felzenberg, a former spokesman for the 9/11 Commission, both denied that the 9/11 Commission had any information on the identification of Mohamed Atta prior to the attacks. Hamilton told the media, "The Sept. 11 commission did not learn of any US government knowledge prior to 9/11 of surveillance of Mohamed Atta or of his cell.... Had we learned of it obviously it would've been a major focus of our investigation." Anthony Shaffer is a US Army Lt. Col who has alleged that the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) failed to properly evaluate intelligence on 9/11 Mohammad Atta. Shaffer's allegations subsequently became known as the Able Danger controversy. In October 2003, according to his later statement to Congress, Shaffer told the 9/11 Commission staff director, Dr. Philip D. Zelikow, that in 2000 a DIA data-mining program known as Able Danger had uncovered two of the three terrorist cells eventually implicated in the 9/11 attacks. Shaffer ...

This involves selecting people who may be sources of meaningful HUMINT, possibly positively identifying them, and conducting interviews of various types. Properly recording and cross-indexing the results of interviews is essential. No intelligence collection discipline is more likely to find meaning in apparently small bits of information than is HUMINT. Especially when there is reason to have additional interviews with the same individual, the subsequent interviews need careful planning, especially when the interrogator does not speak the language of the person being interviewed. As opposed to debriefing, the subject of interrogation is not necessarily cooperating with the obtaining of information by the organization. The subject is normally in custody, although the legal circumstances may be such that an uncooperative subject may be able to leave. Examples of subjects being interrogated include POWs, individuals detained by patrol as not being from the area, and a thief arrested by the civilian police. Interrogation is a skilled technique, which often involves building rapport with the subject. In an intelligence context, interrogators should be trained specialists, although they may work with ...

"NEW" INSECURITY FEAR TACTIC!
"NEW" INSECURITY FEAR TACTIC!
HR 3523 ie the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (or CISPA for short), has been created under the guise of being a necessary implement in America's war against cyberattacks. But the vague verbiage contained within the pages of the paper could allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws and essentially monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers disruptive to the government or private parties. Critics have already come after CISPA for the capabilities that it will give to seemingly any federal entity that claims it is threatened by online interactions, but unlike the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Acts that were discarded on the Capitol Building floor after incredibly successful online campaigns to crush them, widespread recognition of what the latest would-be law will do has yet to surface to the same degree. So far CISPA has been introduced, referred and reported by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and expects to go before a vote in the first half of Congress within the coming weeks. The bill, as written, allows the US government to involve itself into any online correspondence, current exemptions notwithstanding, if it believes there is reason to suspect cyber crime. As with other authoritarian attempts at censorship that have come through Congress in recent times, of course, the wording within the CISPA allows for the government to interpret the law in such a number of ...
